How Does Cashless Hospital Treatment Work From Admission to Discharge?
Cashless hospitalization allows you to undergo medical treatment at a network hospital without paying the covered hospital bill from your own pocket. The insurer or TPA directly settles the bill with the hospital.
1. Planned Hospitalization (48 Hours Prior)
- Choose a hospital in your insurer's active network list.
- Visit the hospital's Insurance / TPA Helpdesk at least 48 to 72 hours before planned admission.
- Submit your Health E-Card, Policy Copy, Doctor Prescription, and Diagnostic Reports.
- The hospital submits the Pre-Authorization Request Form to the insurer/TPA.
- The insurer issues an Initial Cashless Approval letter within 2 to 4 hours stating the authorized sum.
2. Emergency Hospitalization (Within 24 Hours)
In case of sudden illness or accident, show your Health Card at admission. The hospital submits emergency pre-authorization within 24 hours of admission for cashless approval.
3. Final Discharge & Non-Medical Deductions
At the time of discharge, the hospital sends the final itemized bill to the insurer for final authorization. Policyholders only pay for Non-Medical Items (e.g. gloves, masks, registration fee, food charges) unless an add-on cover (like Consumables Cover) is attached.
Recommended Action Checklist
- Always carry your digital health card and photo ID on your phone.
- Confirm if your treating doctor and hospital are in the insurer's active cashless network.
- Ask the hospital billing desk for a copy of the pre-authorization approval letter.
